We've got a great comparison review today - we've pitted two of the most popular vapes on the market against each other to see how each device performs in battery power, vapor production, "look" and user accessibility. We're going to challenge the Paxlabs newest offering the Pax 3, along side the biggest, baddest portable vape out there - the Mighty - by Storz and Bickel.
The Mighty Vaporizer
The Mighty and it's smaller counterpart the Crafty are made by German vape kings Storz & Bickel, the same company that makes the infamous Volcano vaporizer as well as the Plenty. The Mighty is arguably the best vapor producer across the full range of portable vapes.
The Mighty uses convection-dominant hybrid heating, which utilizes the speedy heat up time of conduction energy with the efficient even heating of convection technology. This hybrid heating system provides reliable, consistently thick vapor from the first pull regardless of your draw speed or how much herb you put in the chamber. While the Crafty is a great compact version, the Mighty has the benefits of extended battery life (thanks to a whole extra lithium ion battery) and the fact that you can adjust the unit's temperature without having to get out your phone and log in to an app. The Mighty is also a great multi-functional vape, and can also be used with oils and concentrates by utilizing the 'Concentrate Pads' provided.
The Mighty is incredibly user-friendly, with heating controls reminiscent of the infamous Volcano desktop model. Unlike the Crafty which requires a bluetooth app for full temperature control, the Mighty allows users to quickly and easily control your heat in single degree increments straight from the device.
The Mighty will vibrate to let you know when it's reached your desired temperature, and also to notify you when it's about to turn off - which is an excellent power-saving feature.
The Pax 3
The Pax 3 is the newest offering from American vaporizer producers Paxlabs. After it’s release, the Pax 3 quickly became one of the best-selling devices on the market for it’s sleek, subtle design and elegant finish. Like the Mighty, the Pax 3 is a dual-use vaporizer and is suitable for both dry herb and concentrates.
The Pax 3 is a significant step up from its predecessor the Pax 2, with a 50% larger herb chamber. It uses speedy conduction heating, and delivers vapor in just 15 seconds from when you turn it on. Since the functionality on the actual device is more limited, the Pax 3 does come with an add-on bluetooth smartphone app which gives you a little more temperature control outside the 5 pre-set heat settings. Multi-coloured LED lights on the device provide users with real-time communication for heating. Like the Mighty, the Pax 3 also comes with a vibration feature which alerts you when your device has reached optimum temperature you’ll never experience over-heating. On top of all this smart technology, the Pax 3 can even sense when you’ve held up your vape to your lips and when you’ve set it down - and will heat up and cool down accordingly. While the bluetooth app can be a bit fiddly and make this device a little less user-friendly, this sensory feature is a great battery-saver.
How do they compare?
Both vapes will give you about 90 minutes of continuous use, which is surprising considering the Pax 3 is so much smaller. However, during that 90 minutes the Mighty can complete up to 10 0.2 gram chamber refills, while the Pax 3 will only give you 5 0.2 gram chamber refills at most - so the Mighty comes out on top for battery efficiency.
One great feature of the Mighty that we love is that it offers pass through charging, so you can actually use it while it’s plugged in to charge - unlike the Pax 3. Both vapes take about 2 hours to reach full charge (provided you’re not using your Mighty while it’s charging).
One area that the Pax 3 does win, is the aesthetics. The Pax 3 is a much more sleek and stylish device, and also much more lowkey - you could easily sneak this into a concert unnoticed, while the Mighty is much more conspicuous. If stealth is a huge issue for you, the Mighty may just be too flashy a choice.
If you’re a cloud chaser, the Mighty wins hands down - you simply cannot get the same thick vapor with the Pax 3 that the Mighty delivers. However, this also works in favor of just how discrete the Pax 3 is (large clouds of vapor don’t exactly scream “subtle”).
Overall, the Pax 3 and the Mighty are two great vapes for two very different vapers. If you’re an occasional vaper looking for a sleek, stealthy device to take out and about - the Pax 3 is a great model and is likely to meet all your standards. However if you’re a more frequent user, the Pax 3 might not cut it. The Mighty is the perfect choice for anyone who needs a sturdy device they can take outdoors for hiking and travelling, or just anyone who vapes with a more active lifestyle. It’s large industrial design is highly durable, and you’re unlikely to lose this guy any time soon.
